D’Tigress head coach Rena Wakama has been named the best coach in the women’s basketball event at the 2024 Olympic Games.
32-year-old Wakama led D’Tigress to the quarterfinals in the women’s basketball event.
With just weeks of preparation, the African champions recorded important victories against World Number 3 Australia and World No. 5 Canada in the group stage to book a place in the Quarter Final.
Wakama’s side, however, bowed out to USA in the quarterfinals.
D’Tigress made history as the first African team, male or female, to reach the quarterfinals in the history of the Olympics.
Born to Nigerian parents in North Carolina, Wakama, who hails from Rivers State represented Nigeria at the 2015 Women’s Afrobasket tournament in Cameroon, where Nigeria finished third.
She also played for the First Bank of Nigeria team at the FIBA Africa Champions Cup for Women.
