Rivers Angels, Delta Queens triumph on NWFL Super 6 Matchday 1

Rivers Angels and Delta Queens began their quest  to become champions with comfortable wins in their opening matches of the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) Super Six on Tuesday June 6 at the Stephen Keshi Stadium in Asaba.

Rivers Angels defeated Robo Queens 2-0 in Group A opener, to kick-off the NWFL Super Six. Chaimaka Okwuchukwu opened the scoring for the Jewels of Rivers in the 36th minute with a superb strike from the edge of the box.

The Landladies squandered some chances to draw level in the first half.

Adaobi Okah made it 2-0 for Rivers Angels in the 79th minute with another wonderful shot to begin their Super Six campaign on a promising note.

Meanwhile, hosts Delta Queens comfortably dispatched Confluence Queens 3-1 in the second match of the day and opening game of Group B.

Ekpenyong Effiom scored the opening goal for the hosts with a powerful strike in the 19th minute of the match. It didn’t take long before Peter Martha drew level for the visitors.

Samuel Vera scored in the 34th minute to restore the host team’s lead, before Ekpenyong Effiom sealed the win 3-1 for Delta Queens in the 90th minute.

In the last matches in Group B, Confluence Queens will face Edo Queens on Wednesday, while Edo Queens will do battle against Delta Queens on Thursday.

In Group A, Bayelsa Queens will slug it out against Robo Queens on Wednesday, while Rivers Angels will trade tackles with Bayelsa Queens in the final fixture.
