The management and entire Rivers Angels Football Club, led by General Manager Matilda Otuene-Onyiloha, have sent their deepest condolences to the Okara family and Bayelsa Queens over the untimely demise of Domo Okara on Saturday, June 8th, 2024.
Matilda Otuene-Onyiloha, speaking to the team’s media, described Domo Okara as a brilliant women’s football coach whose death has left a huge and monumental loss to the women’s game in Nigeria and Africa.
“The news of Domo’s death is still like a film trick to us, as we find it difficult to believe that a man who was with us during the Super Six is gone.”
“Domo’s death is a big blow to women’s football in Nigeria and Africa. We never heard that he was sick, but suddenly, it’s the news of his death that we’re hearing.”
Domo Okara, who guided Bayelsa Queens to a third-place finish at the 2024 NWFL Premiership Super Six playoffs in Yenagoa, Bayelsa state, was said to have died on Saturday morning after he slumped.
On behalf of the players, coaches, and management of Rivers Angels, Mrs. Otuene-Onyiloha prayed that God would console the football fraternity in Nigeria, Domo’s immediate family, and Bayelsa Queens.
“I condole the football family in Nigeria, the Okara family, the players, and management of Bayelsa Queens for this irreparable loss. As a club, we will continue to pray that broken hearts would be healed, and such untimely deaths are not heard of anymore.”
