Rivers United Signs Ossy Martins, Announce Nyima Nwagua As New Captain

Former NPFL champions Rivers United have completed the signing of Ossy Martins on a free transfer.

Martins signed a one-year contract with the Pride of Rivers.

“We’re thrilled to announce the signing of Ossy Martins.

Welcome home, Ossy Martins.” Rivers United announced on their social media platforms.

The energetic forward last played for Tunisian club, Tataouine.

The 22-year-old was expected to travel to Sweden to join Östers IF but the move didn’t materialise due to visa issues and time constraints.

Ossy Martins will battle Nyima Nwagua for a starting berth in Rivers United’s first team.

He had stints with Lobi Stars and Rangers International of Enugu.

Meanwhile, Nyima Nwagua has been named the new captain of the Portharcourt-based club.

The former Nigeria Professional Football League winners made this known in a post on Thursday.

“We are delighted to announce that Nyima Nwagua has been named our new team captain.”

Rivers United finished third in the last NPFL Super Six Playoffs held in Lagos. They will be representing Nigeria in this season’s CAF Confederation Cup competition.
