The Super Eagles of Nigeria have suffered yet another late injury blow as Real Sociedad forward Sadiq Umar has now withdrawn from the tournament due to injury.
Sadiq Suffered a knee injury in the Super Eagles’ warm-up game against Guinea in Abu Dhabi which has forced him to return to Spain for treatment. He will be out of action for at least 3 weeks, making it impossible for him to participate in the Africa Cup of Nations.
Sadiq’s injury will be the third for Jose Peseiro’s men after Wilfred Ndidi and Victor Boniface also pulled out due to injury.
There are reports that Peseiro has called up on loan Southampton forward, Paul Onuachu as replacement for the injured Sadiq Umar.
Both Kelechi Iheanacho and Terem Moffi are expected to join the squad in Abidjan by the weekend and so effectively ruled out of Nigeria’s opening game against Equatorial Guinea.
