Super Eagles sweat on Boniface’s fitness ahead AFCON 2023

Super Eagles striker, Victor Boniface is batting to be fit for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

The Bayer Leverkusen forward missed the Super Eagles’ friendly against Guinea on Monday due to a muscular injury.

The 23-year-old also missed the test game between the Eagles and local Abu Dhabi-based club Al Gharib due to same injury

According to camp sources, Boniface sustained the injury in training in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates (UAE), as the team intensifies preparations for the AFCON, but the extent is not known yet.

Reacting to reports of Boniface’s injury, former Nigeria international, Sunday Oliseh said it will be a big blow to the Super Eagles at AFCON 2023.

“I have watched Boniface closely all season, and he is simply an extraordinary player! Him missing AFCON will be a bad blow for Us,” Oliseh wrote on X.

“We need to have him fit at all cost as he is in my opinion, Definitely one of Naija’s best hopes!!“

Napoli hitman, Victor Osimhen and Real Sociedad’s Umar Sadiq are the only fit strikers in the squad at the moment.

The other striker in the team, Kelechi Iheanacho is also struggling to be fit for the AFCON.

Boniface made his debut for the Super Eagles against Sao Tome and Principe in September.

He has featured five times for the three-time African champions.
