Super Eagles to camp in UAE ahead of AFCON

The head of Media and Communication of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ademola Olajire has confirmed that the Super Eagles of Nigeria will commence their preparation for the 2023 African Cup of Nations in the United Arab Emirates.

Nigeria qualified for the biennial tournament after winning their group over second-placed Guinea Bissau, Sao Tome and Principe and Sierra Leone.

The three-time African champions were however, underwhelming in their 2026 World Cup qualifiers after securing draws in the two games against Lesotho and Zimbabwe.

“The Super Eagles camping details are not out yet, but they will camp in the UAE.” Olajire said.

The Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) is billed to hold in Cote d’Ivoire next year, with the kick-off scheduled for January 13, 2024, at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Ebimpe, Abidjan. The final is set for 11 February 2024.

The Eagles are in Group A alongside hosts Cote d’Ivoire, Equatorial Guinea and Guinea-Bissau.

Super Falcons head coach, Randy Waldrum has not been with the team since taking Nigeria to the second round of the FIFA Women’s World Cup held in Australia and New Zealand. The NFF mouthpiece said the NFF will review the situation and then make a final pronouncement on the substantive coach in due course.

“I don’t know the excitement about the Falcons coaching job. When a decision is taken, it will be made public,” he said.
