Two Team Rivers Athletes Zoom Into Final Stages Of Shooting Event

Two Team Rivers athletes have qualified for the final stages of the shooting event at the ongoing 7th National Youth Games in Asaba, Delta state.

The athletes, 14-year-old Favour Nwanodu, male, and 14-year-old Favour Dumbo, female on Tuesday, competed in the Air Rifle (Pistol) and Air Rifle (Rifle) categories respectively, to advance to the final stages of the event.

Speaking after the event, the head coach of Team Rivers shooting team, Mary Ikpeamaegwu, lauded the performances of the athletes, saying that she hoped it will lead to a podium finish.

“With God on our side and with their names (Favour), all things are possible,” she said.

Reacting to the question about improvements on past games, the coach said organisers have moved on from manual to electronic equipment. She also said that her athletes would do much better if they had rifles to practice with, while stating that they currently do not have rifles of their own.

In her message to Rivers people back home, coach Ikpeamaegwu said, “God is on our side and we are winning and we are going to come out the best.”
