Super Eagles forward Victor Osimhen has become the first African footballer in serie A history to win the prestigious Serie A Golden Boot Award also known as the ‘Capocannoniere’.
Osimhen secured the coveted prize after an incredible 2022/23 season with Napoli which saw him score 26 goals in the Italian top flight, edging out competition from Inter Milan’s Lautaro Martinez (21 goals) to land the coveted individual accolade.
His goals played a key role in helping Napoli with their first Scudetto in 33 years.
Osimhen’s recent goal came against Sampdoria in the final game of the season, after the Nigeria international scored from the penalty spot in his side’s 2-0 victory.
The Golden Boot was not the only individual award that Osimhen won, having also been named the Serie A’s best striker of the season.
