Reigning Nigeria Women’s Football League champions, Delta Queens are set to make their maiden appearance in the CAF Women’s Champions League after been drawn in Group A for the WAFU Zone B qualifiers.
The draw which was released on Monday evening by Africa soccer ruling body, CAF placed them against tough opponents including Atletico D’Abidjan of Cote d’Ivoire, Burkina Faso’s USFA, and Sam Nelly FC of Benin Republic.
Group B of the regional qualifiers include Ampem Darkoa of Ghana, AS Garden Nationale of Niger Republic, and Amis Du Monde of Togo.
The WAFU Zone B qualifiers serve as the preliminary stage for teams in the West African region to secure a spot in the main CAF Women’s Champions League tournament. The objective is to claim the solitary ticket available for WAFU Zone B.
Delta Queens’ triumph in the NWFL Super Six playoffs granted them the opportunity to represent Nigeria in the prestigious continental tournament.
Rivers Angels and Bayelsa Queens represented Nigeria in the previous two editions of the CAF Women’s Champions League.
The upcoming WAFU Zone B qualifiers are scheduled to take place on August 18 in Cote d’Ivoire.
