WAFU B U20 Girls: Falconets Ease Past Benin 3-0, Set Up Final With Ghana

Nigeria’s Falconets defeated Benin Republic 3-0 on Wednesday evening at the Baba Yara Stadium in Kumasi to reach the final of the 2023 WAFU B U20 Girls Cup of Nations.tournament in Ghana.

A brace from Esther Onyenezide and another strike from Amina Bello saw the Falconets record their fourth straight win of the tournament.

The Falconets will now face hosts Ghana in the final to determine the winner of the inaugural tournament.In

Amina Bello drove through the heart of the Beninoise defence to open the scoring in the 24th minute before Esther Onyenezide confidently converted from the penalty spot on 34 minutes to make it 2-0 for Nigeria on 34 minutes from the penalty spot.

Onyenezide danced past two defenders before scoring scoring a brace in the 62nd minute, her fourth goal of the tournament, to make it 3-0 for the two-time U20 Women’s World Cup finalist.

Christopher Danjuma’s team failed to connvert other chances to add to the tally, as the game ended 3-0 which ensured their progress to the final of the WAFU B U20 Girls Cup, where they will face host country, Ghana.

The Ghanaians, earlier in the other semifinal, defeated Burkina Faso 3-1 to book their place in Sunday’s final.

Nigeria’s Falconets have won all four of their games in Ghana, scoring 19 goals and conceding none.
