Golden Eaglets head coach Manu Garba has charged his team to win against Togo in their final Group B match of the WAFU B U-17 Cup on Wednesday.
The Eaglets have garnered four points from their opening two games at the University of Ghana.
The defending champions need just a point from the game against Togo to ensure qualification into the semi-final but coach Garba is not thinking of a stalemate.
“We are not here to draw matches. I am not happy that we drew our first match against Burkina Faso. We should have scored a number of goals, especially towards the end but we cannot be crying over spilt milk,” Garba told thenff.com.
“We got the three points against Niger Republic, and we have to keep the winning mentality. We cannot afford to gamble; a win is what we are going for. Even though they lost their first two matches, we cannot afford to underrate the Togolese. They got two goals against Niger Republic, even though they eventually lost, so they are not a team to be taken for granted.”
The tournament, running from May 15 to 29, will see the top two teams from the group facing the best teams from Group A, which includes Ghana, Cote d’Ivoire, and Benin Republic, in the semi-final.
The two countries that qualify for the final will represent the region at next year’s U-17 African Cup of Nations.
The Golden Eaglets are record five-time world champions.
