“We’re The Best. Give my players Better Condition To Perform At AFCON”. Peseiro Charges NFF

Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro says his team deserved to beat Sierra Leone in the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The Portugese tactician stated this in a post-match interview after Nigeria’s 3-2 win against the Leone Stars in the 2023 AFCON qualifier on Sunday at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Stadium in Liberia’s capital, Monrovia.

Victor Osimhen scored a brace in just 32 minutes of the first half to give Nigeria a comfortable 2-0 lead and while the home side drew level, a late strike from Kelechi Iheanacho ensured that Nigeria left Monrovia with all three points and confirmed their spot at the tournament with a game to spare.

”Very hard match my players never gave up, they fought till the final whistle in the first half we created up to eight opportunities but only scored two goals.

“We deserved to win but I think it was a difficult and very good match but our team is the best in the group.

“We did a fantastic job against a good team. I’m happy with my players, congratulations to them.” Said the Super Eagles coach.

The Portugese tactician also called on the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to improve the welfare of his players, to boost their chances of winning the 2023 AFCON in Cote d’Ivoire.

“The NFF need to do their best by giving good conditions for my players. Super Eagles players play for Nigeria and need better condition. NFF must work well to give better condition to the players for good performance at the African Nations Cup.

“I want to say we still have time for them to do the right thing for us to do well at AFCON.” Peseiro demanded.

Jose Peseiro however explained why Victor Osimhen and Joe Aribo were substituted in the second half of his team’s encounter against Sierra Leone on Sunday.

“I try to improve the team. Of course, Aribo it was due to injury and asked to go out. Osimhen also felt something in the leg,”

“The others I tried to give more power, energy and quality to fight till the end because Sierra Leone in that moment didn’t create many opportunities but (later) they attacked and pressurized us and they did very well”. The Portugese tactician explained.

With his brace against Sierra Leone, Osimhen is now the top scorer in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers with seven goals, two more than Bayern Munich and Senegal striker Sadio Mane.
