Why Peseiro and the NFF parted ways

More facts have emerged on why the Nigeria Football Federation NFF and former Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro parted ways.

Peseiro announced on Friday via his X account that he is leaving his post as Super Eagles head coach after his contract officially ended on February 29.

The NFF were keen to retain the services of the 63-year-old, but the two parties could not agree on the terms of a new contract.

According to SCORENigeria, the NFF proposed that the gaffer will be on the same $50,000 salary, while the Portuguese demanded a record monthly pay of $120,000 to continue on the job.

“He asked for $120,000 a month salary, but the NFF offered to pay him his current salary of $50,000 instead. That was where negotiations broke down.” an NFF official revealed.

Peseiro was appointed Super Eagles head coach in May 2022.

The Portuguese tactician led Nigeria to a second place finish at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire.

Under his reign, the Super Eagles won 11, drew four, and lost seven out of 22 matches.
