Team Nigeria Wrestling queen Odunayo Adekunroye has defeated World number 12 and Turkey’s Elvira Kamalogi 9-5 on Wednesday evening to clinch bronze at the ongoing World Wrestling Championship in Serbia.
With the victory, her fourth championship medal, Adekunroye has now secured a ticket to next year’s Olympic games in Paris.
Adekunroye, competing in the 57kg women’s category, had earlier defeated World number four and Brazilian International Giullia Oliveira 10-7 in the first round bout, before going on to win United World Wrestling’s Sarita Sarita in the Round of 16.
The Nigerian Wrestling star, ranked 22nd in the world, lost her quarter-final bout to Moldova’s Anastasia Nich Ita by 10-0 on Tuesday and so, needed a win at reperchage to stand a chance to contest for Bronze.
She however, redeemed her chances by beating Bulgaria’s Evelina Georgiev Nikolova 14-7 on Wednesday in the reperchage contest, giving her a chance to contest for a bronze medal and a ticket to the 2024 Olympic games in Paris.
